Christmas under wraps -pt1

Dearest Minions,
When I think of Christmas, I do tend to think of the Christmas story, Jesus reason for the season and co but I also think of Family and winter.
So here are my entries to Inspiration Avenue challenge  this week and Tuesday Taggers  and Anthing goes anything but a card both tags were inked with Distress ink in Blue Jean and flicked with water via a toothbrush. The masks (Tim Holtz) where then sponged over (family) and stamped over (3 wise men). In "Family I then stuck on a die cut and in "3 wise men" I stamped the main image.

However it does not stop there.... as some will know I get very ranty about Christmas wrapping paper (we throw away enough to cover Guernsey every Christmas.) I am going to show a few alternatives to wrapping paper over the next few days. Here is my first....
Two old road map pages have been taped together and then used to wrap up a box in the normal way, the tag I thought rather fitted the theme. Martha Stewart has some good examples of wrapping and recycling on her website and don't miss Thrifty Christmas for other blooming great ideas.

tuesday taggers - altered can

The before shot when Shelia the chocolate can/tin thought she was for the scrap heap.

The Glamorous photo shoot where Shelia the can seduced all with her wonderful monochrome, delightful new look and bagged a rich lover to boot.

Ahhh tales from up cycling made more interesting and fun... this is my entry to Tuesday Tagger's latest challenge (sponsored by the craft barn), cold beans have a smell that makes me want to vomit hence using a chocolate biscuit tin.

Also entrering for the Creative card crew monochromatic, Ocean deep anything with a c, Simon say's stamp anything goes

Inspiration Avenue - English lit

Dearest Minions,

This week's challenge for the wonderful Inspiration Avenue is English Literature. I adore the writings of M R James and this is my tribute to his wonderful ghost stories. The background is created with shaving foam and then stamped with a prima stamp and a charm slapped on top. A couple of his stories are about hidden treasure/peril & one of the most spooky of these is Count Magnus. This is "a warning to the curious" about keeping things under lock and key.... which is where the inspiration for this piece comes from.

Braawnnn card

Dearest Minions,

This delicate card, which has been inspired by fasionable stamping challenges coffee and cream with abit of dark chocolate; still has to be dedicated to a friend who always pronouced brown as braawnn.

The main image - cherry pie da vinci was stamped and then masked, the lost coast swirl was then stamped and then sponged, finally one of my fav stamps Tempus Fugit (time flys) a freebie from craft stamper was stamped on the bottom. Most of inks are distressed they have been reading the papers - but have been instantly cheered by The Invisable Navies of Utopia being on Itunes to download - take that Murdoch! ha!

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Creative inspirations - monochromatic
Lothian Crafts - anything goes
C.R.A.F.T Challenge - Autumn

Best wishes

pressed ganged into Xmas

Dearest minions,

Here is one of my latest. I am trying to use more of my normal stamps for Christmas and here is a lovely Poeish stamp given a snow filled twist. Which is fitting as many people I know are cretins when it comes to Xmas cheer. Below is another example of a stamp press ganged into use.... mwahahahaha.

mad old cat lady alarm

Dearest Minions,

I am entering this card into the following challenges: Tuesday Taggers wonderful world, Anything goes, anything goes (sadly this does not include shark cages filled with cabinet ministers, but you can not have everything) sweet stampin, challenges anything goes (again no snakes or sharks.) and fasionable stamping challenges vintage I think the ever  speacial, Tim's stamps do have an Edwardian feel to them as do the gaed papers.

This card is made with basic grey capella papers and  stamped with Tim Holtz's papillion stamps and the reason it's a wonderful world is my ever critical cat in the background, the evil Dr Nebular. He makes my evil domain a happy one.

Bliss

Dearest Minions,

Here is a really quick card I made recently, I love the paper and I got a stampin' up stamp set with the delish word Bliss on it hence the sentiment. Of course if you are a winged horse stomping through mystic mists I am sure that would cause a great deal of happiness, esp. if there was a muffin at the end of it.

EVIL EDNA'S Challenge CSI

Dearest Treasured Minions,
Todays challenge for you is to pick a CSI ie New York etc. and make a phone call in the style of it.

This maybe difficult if you pick ginger from Miami as it is hard to verbally take off sun glasses.

inspiration Avenue -Icy

Dearest Minions,

It's the whimsical tree stamp again, in the midst of proper English summer weather (weenie sunny spells and biblical rain) it's easy to think of ice. Here is my entry to this weeks inspiration Avenue challenge -Icy.

Masking with distress inks mounted on basic grey glacier from their beautiful Figgy pudding range, yet more strokable paper.

shells

Dearest Minions,

This is my version of multi tasking as I am entering this card into several challenges. The image is a most devious invention by crafty individuals  (old)which has been stamped over acyclic paint in pool, red pepper and lettuce from ranger (a fav thing to do.) The quote is a whimsy stamp (new). I wanted to go for simpilicity and impact as I find that bright colours can overwhelm twiddly bits.

I don't tend to used Bright colours so I was a little at a loss when, the bright in every way, Helen Chilton set the crafty individuals challenge of Bright and Beautiful. The very nice people at Try it on Tuesday, who are being sponsored by One Stop Card Crafts had set a beach theme so I am throwing it to see if it sticks at that as well and then I am putting it forward like ambious parent for crafty calender's hot colours and also Cooking it up with Katie and some other wonderful sites.

tim and more tim holtz

Dearest Minions,

Today I saw an adult with a Justin Bieber haircut, this adult is in a proper grown up job and all I could do was stare at his hair. I wanted to go all Grey's anatomy and start saying the word "Seriously?!" over and over again. On the other hand this could be the solution for dentists and politians everywhere, it shall be part of the plan.

two things to do before you die

Dearest minions,

I went to see the delightful John Finnemore on Saturday and in one of his sketches he said "two things to do before you die, 1. Be kind 2. Have fun."

This phrase inspired this card. The hearts are made of felt and the linen coaster has been sprayed with cosmic shimmer mists which is rather apt.

So over and out my fine fellows.

try it on Tuesday - this is a gift

Dearest minions,

This is my entry to Try it on Tuesday which this week is an altered something that can given as a gift. So I went all steampunk funk on a blank book box. The book plate was filled with watch cogs and pieces, I then filled the space with glossy accents to hold them in place.

celebrate with dancing girls

Dearest Minions,

It was so hot on Monday, that I had to be fanned by pretty minions armed with endless jugs of Pimms with REEEEAAAAALLLLY long straws. Then it rained, biblically on Tuesday, Bury St Edmunds made the papers and internet due to surface flooding. But it has been great weather again, soooo here to celebrate the heat are two show girl cards. The stamps are lost coast - the ladies and Tim Holtz Papillion- backgrounds.

I used the versamark distress technique from the July Edition of craft stamper demonstrated by the great Joanne Wardle.
